Habitat for Humanity of Craven County thanks community for supporting annual fundraiser
Habitat for Humanity of Craven County is celebrating the success of its 35th anniversary fundraiser, which was made possible through the generous support of local sponsors, community members and volunteers.
Held at the Pavilion at Carolina Colours on November 1, HFHCC’s “Hammer It Home” event grossed more than $40,000 for the non-profit, which works to provide affordable housing throughout the county.
The event’s CHAIR-ity Live Auction, which featured 10 chairs hand-painted by local artists, brought in more than $5,000. The featured artists who lent their time and talent to help support HFHCC’s mission were: Ashley McDaniel, Cheryl Gerhart, Heide Lock, Heidi DiBella, Jan Francoeur, John Hanley, Mary Phelps, Nicole Pierre, Sami Taglieri, Toni Taglieri and Kyle Swinson.
Community members had a 1/140 chance of winning the $5k Reverse Raffle held during the “Hammer It Home” event, which featured MC George Oliver and Ret. Gen. Tom Braaten, who hosted the Live Auction portion of the evening.
The funds from “Hammer It Home” will be used to help support HFHCC’s mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Crucial to the success of the event were the numerous volunteers who contributed to the planning and organization. A total of 31 volunteers assisted HFHCC employees with the auction during the day of the event.
Annually, more than 400 individual volunteers donate roughly 8,800 hours to HFHCC to help keep homes affordable in Craven County.
“Our volunteers are the backbone of this organization,” said HFHCC Executive Director Tracey Lilly. “Without them we simply would not have the resources to build homes for our community, run the Habitat ReStore or bring in the number of donated items that come through our organization each day.”
The fundraiser brought in $17,000 in sponsorships. The top sponsor for the event was B/S/H Home Appliance Corporation, which donated at the $2,500 level. Other top donors who generously gave at the $1,000 level were: former N.C. Governor Bev Perdue and Bob Evans; Patti and Richard Peebles; Black Insurance Services, LLC; Carpet One of New Bern; First Citizens Bank; International Paper; and New Bern Family Dentistry.
Lilly thanked the community members and donors who lent their financial support.
“The residents and businesses of Craven County have been there for us since the beginning and continue to play a vital role in our mission to provide safe, secure homes for our citizens,” said Lilly. "They made our 35h anniversary truly one to remember."
Habitat for Humanity of Craven County was established in 1989 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit Christian housing ministry. Over the last 35 years, HFHCC has helped build homes for more than 80 local residents, providing safe and stable living environments for adults and their children.
