Habitat for Humanity of Craven County celebrates Women Build volunteers
Women from across the area came together in May to work with Habitat for Humanity of Craven County to help make the dream of homeownership come true for one local family.
HFHCC held its Women Build program on May 8-10. The event focuses on women volunteering their time and talents to help build an affordable home while learning new skills in the process.
This year’s Women Build drew 29 volunteers to work on the most recent HFCC construction project at 2202 Hartford Avenue in New Bern’s Pembroke neighborhood. The volunteers worked on putting up siding and caulking the interior of the home to meet "SystemVision" high energy efficiency requirements.
The project is the ninth home Habitat has constructed in Pembroke and the first two-story project the nonprofit has undertaken since 2020.
The Women Build provides an inclusive opportunity open to all gender identities. It brings together women from a number of different backgrounds, including individuals, groups, and coworkers.
All experience levels are welcome as Women Build volunteers, with no construction skills required. Participants in the 2025 Women Build received a T-shirt and were invited to the homeowner dedication.
HFHCC Executive Director Tracey Lilly stressed that the Women Build is about celebrating the impact of local volunteers and challenging them to create a stronger, safer community.
“This is a chance to recognize our ladies for their contributions to the work that Habitat does every day. They’ve always played an integral role in our organization, both locally and nationally, and we look forward to welcoming some new faces to our veteran group of women volunteers each year,” Lilly said.
