Women from across the area will come together next month to work with Habitat for Humanity of Craven County to help make the dream of homeownership come true for one local family.
HFHCC will hold its Women Build 2026 program on February 25-28. Women Build focuses on creating female-friendly, inclusive environments where women can volunteer their time to learn, work, and form friendships while addressing critical housing needs in Craven County.
Sponsored by HFHCC and Coastal Women’s Forum, Women Build provides an inclusive opportunity open to all gender identities. It brings together women from a number of different backgrounds, including individuals, groups, and coworkers.
All experience levels are welcome as Women Build volunteers, with no construction skills required.
“Whether you're learning a new skill or expanding your tool belt, this is a rewarding experience for everyone involved,” said HFHCC Executive Director Tracey Lilly. “The Women Build empowers families with greater strength, stability, and independence through homeownership, particularly women and children, who are most affected by poor living conditions.”
Coastal Women’s Forum Board member Heather Thornburg said the organization is excited to support not only HFHCC “but also the exceptional women who are helping to build a stronger community.”
“This sponsorship allows us to not only support the organization financially but physically, it’s a true building situation,” Thornburg said.
The dates for this year’s Women Build are:
Wednesday, February 25 - 12 p.m.-4 p.m.
Thursday, February 26 - 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Friday, February 27 - 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Saturday, February 28 - 8 a.m.-12 p.m./12 p.m.-4 p.m.
Volunteers for the Women Build can complete an application and sign up for orientation at cravencountyhabitat.org.
Volunteers can also consider donating $20 per person per volunteer shift to help HFHCC raise money for its Home Sweet Home campaign. HFHCC is hoping to raise $150,000 for the construction of the new home in New Bern’s Pembroke community that will be the focus of this year’s Women Build construction project.
Women Build 2026 also offers three sponsorship levels for Corporations / Friend Groups that provides a strong platform to boost community presence and support a meaningful cause.
