Volunteers are the heart and soul of our Habitat affiliate.
Being a Habitat for Humanity volunteer can be one of the most generous and personally rewarding acts you can undertake. Helping those in need of decent and safe housing gives you the satisfaction of making a difference for a family and it also strengthens the community. Best of all, it’s fun!
Habitat for Humanity of Craven County recognizes and respects the hard work of its many volunteers. In fact, we could not exist without everyone who believes in and shares our mission by giving their time, skills, and effort. We always need volunteers and have multiple opportunities for individuals or groups. You don’t have to commit to a set schedule; we understand people may work and have busy lives, so you can commit to as much or a little time as your personal schedule permits.
Federal, state and local laws stipulate age guidelines for volunteers under 18 years of age. All worksite volunteers must be at least 16 years old; anyone at a worksite between the ages of 16 to 18 years must first have written permission from a parent or guardian, and may not operate power tools. Youth not yet 16 years of age are still welcome to volunteer for the ReStore or specially assigned projects.

MORE INFORMATION COMING SOON
We’d be delighted if you are interested in organizing a fundraiser and/or use your talents to support Habitat! Here are a few ideas for you, or a group of friends/neighbors/church members might consider:
- Start of special collection at your church
- Host a car wash
- Hold a bake sale
- Organize a BBQ Plate or Fish Fry
- Hold a spaghetti dinner
- Donate gently used items to our ReStore; organize a Donation Drive for ReStore
- Volunteer to be on our Development Committee
- Help us with grant research
- Find a way to best use your talents!
The ReStore is our resale business where we sell new and used donated appliances, furniture, building materials and many other items to the public at 50% to 90% below regular retail prices. Proceeds from ReStore go towards the building of new Habitat homes and to offset operating costs. We always enjoy and welcome volunteers to help prepare items for the sales floor and help us make the merchandise displays look attractive. This is one place where young people who are not old enough to be on the work site can still be involved!
Enjoy cooking or baking? Our work crew volunteers always appreciate a batch of muffins or cookies for their mid-morning break during their work day (usually Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday). We also need to have volunteers help with feeding our high-school and college student volunteers coming in February and March.
If you like office work, we can use your help with Data Entry to keep our contact information up to date. Other possible tasks would include filing, straightening the supplies closet, or special mailings.
