Deedra and her husband "retired" to New Bern in mid-December of 2014 and she began working with Habitat Craven in late September 2015. Although new to us, she was a long-time volunteer and Board member/President with Habitat for Humanity of South County in southern Rhode Island; she worked with the Executive Director on writing the grant that created the only ReStore in the State. Whether as a volunteer or staff member, Deedra has had extensive experience with a variety of non-profit organizations in Rhode Island. Additionally she and her husband owned a camera store and photography studio in South Kingston, RI for 29 years.

Why did Deedra become involved with Habitat?

I firmly believe that if children do not have a safe, decent and consistent place to know as home, then everything else is much more difficult for them, whether it’s their health, behavior issues, doing in well in school or dreams for their own future. Habitat gives families and children the stability needed to succeed and be a real part of their community.
